Welcome A glimpse of Burgundy Welcome to the heart of Burgundy, in the middle of fields along the River Seine. At Orret an ancient farmhouse, formerly attached to a monastery, greets you and promises tranquility and comfort. Yesterday, pilgrims on their way to Compostella passed by Alesia-Langres. Today, the GR2 bike riders and hikers stop for a moment’s rest under the linden trees at the corner of the Clos d’Orret. The vast, spreading countryside is dottedwith forests, agriculture and prairies reminding Man of his true dimension. However, vineyards are never very far. This land, subjugated by bitter battles for power, was for many years a question of prestige between the dukes of Burgundy and the kings of France. There is much precious evidence to illustrate days gone by. |
