The Farm The Outhouses Over the years, four contiguous buildings have become this wing of the farm. The oldest contains a barn and a horse stable. Its construction is of carefully fashioned stone with a beautiful basket-handle arch. It dates back to the XVIIth or XVIIIth Century. Its re-used foundations were formerly part of a more ancient construction. This building houses the "music barn". The lean-to adjoining the East facade of the barn is also interesting as it still contains a whole system of frames which held the axle of a horse-driven grain mill. This was the “horse ring”. A large covered inner courtyard was refurbished to replace a smaller XIXth Century building. It stocked all the farm equipment on the ground floor (even the hens had their own cottage there) and the hay on the first floor. A small XIXth Century building with two floors at the western end forms the last section of this structure. A sizeable pig sty was at one end facing the fields. It opened out under the covered area forming a sheltered living room with a chimney, which was used by the farmhands. It has always been called “the oven room”. This area now consists of two furnished rooms with independent access. |
